What Shoes to Choose

Running / Walking / General Use

Most consumers are generally interested in finding out how to determine the best Running shoes for their feet and running style. We have three categories of support in our running shoes: Cushioning, Structured Cushioning, and Maximum Support. Your arch height is a great reference point to help figure out pronation range and the appropriate category for you. You can visit the ASICS Shoe Fit Guide to help find the best running category and products based on your needs.

While running shoes can be used for walking, we would recommend that walkers look at Walking Specific footwear to obtain the best benefits. The impact forces and positioning of the foot are different in walking than in running and the midsole/outsole in walking shoes are built to address these needs specifically. ASICS Walking Shoes are a tried and true source for walking performance and comfort.

Training / Court Shoes

Training shoes are typically recommended for people who are working out in the gym, running lightly, or looking for a shoe with a little more structure in the upper. These training shoes or cross-training shoes provide support for lateral (side-to-side) movements.
Court shoes
have comparable support in the upper with a more indoor-specific outsole.

Product Returns (Consumers)

All of ASICS® products are warranted to the consumer through the retailer that makes the original sale. You may take the product back to the store where you made the purchase for return, exchange or refund. If your purchase was made through an online retailer, please consult such retailer's return policy.

If you feel that your product has a manufacturer's defect which has not been addressed by the retailer that you purchased it from, you may send it to ASICS America Corporation for inspection. For all packages being sent to ASICS America Corporation, the following information is REQUIRED on the outside of the package or your package will be returned:

  • A return mailing address from sender - not P.O. Box (We will not ship to P.O. Boxes if an item is to be replaced)
  • All packages must be marked Attention: Consumer Relations Dept.
  • ASICS America Corporation will not accept packages from outside of the United States. If you are a Canadian resident, please contact the ASICS distributor in Canada via phone at (819) 566-8866 or by e-mail at asics@aqpinc.com

Shoe Sizing

Length

The recommended fit for any athletic shoe is a thumbs width from the end of your longest toes to the end of the shoe to allow room for swelling and prevent the potential for irritation and blisters. In most cases, people use a half size larger when compared to their casual shoe size. In some cases, people use a full size larger.

Width

The standard (medium) width for women is B, while the standard width for men is D. Shoe boxes and labels will only identify widths other than standard. Within the shoes, wide and narrow widths are identified on the label, underneath the tongue — ie. T005N(2E).

When is additional width needed?
Visible stretching or bulging on the outsides of forefoot materials is a good indicator that additional width may be needed. These sizes are available in many of our Running and Training shoes. In some cases, men can wear women’s styles to achieve a narrow fit and women can wear men’s to get a wide. If this is needed, please use the references above to determine comparable size lengths. Please note that the differences of width between narrow, standard, wide, and extra wide are usually only a couple millimeters and are proportional to the size of the shoe. Most additional width will be found in the forefoot .

Orthotics and Insoles

It is not uncommon for people to use a different insole in a shoe.  However, if a different full-length set is placed inside, it is recommended to remove the originals.  In addition, use of the last lacing eyelets is suggested to help secure the heel in place.

Product Updates

  • Many shoes and apparel items are updated on an annual basis.  Shoes tend to have additional colors released every six months (December/June).
  • Shoe styles constantly evolve based on consumer and wear tester feedback.  We do our best to keep a familiar fit but also understand that we must continue to move forward.

Style Names: Numbers at the end of each style name increase each time they are updated.  For example, in 2009, the GT-2000™ shoe was the GT-2140™. In 2010, the name increased to GT-2150™. Other models, like the GEL-Cumulus®, went from the GEL-Cumulus 11® to the GEL-Cumulus 12®.

Charity

Charity Donations

For all charity requests, ASICS offers one gift certificate valued at $100 for one pair of running shoes that can be used as an auction item or give-away. If this is of interest, please submit a proposal on charity letterhead with the charity’s 501C (3) status requesting the gift certificate.

Charity Sponsorships

Currently, ASICS policy is to support charitable events and organizations that are in our own backyard, Orange County, CA. If you fall within that region, please submit a proposal for the following year as all charity involvement is planned one year in advance.

Washing Instructions (Shoes)

The most effective way to clean your shoes is with a shoe cleaner and a soft cloth/brush.   An alternative method is hand washing with cold water and a mild detergent followed by an air dry.  The use of a washing machine or dryer is not recommended.
